House music titan DJ Shimza is back with new a new Ep titled “Fight To Love”, the EP is a compromise of remixes to the original Fight To Love track which features Lesotho-born songstress, Maleh. The EP consists of remixed versions of the song by internationally acclaimed producers Floyd Lavine and Louie Vega.
DJ Shimza (real name, Ashley Raphala) is one of South Africa’s most talented and in-demand DJs. The Swaziland-born house tycoon has been electrifying dancefloors for a minute now with his innovative Afro-techno sounds. Fight To Love is a scintillating house number that forms part of Shimza’s KUNYE imprint house series. Maleh’s vocal performance coupled with the bass drums, hi-hats, and deep-house instrumental makes this a track that house lovers should add to their rotation.
Louie Vega’s NYC edit of the track does justice to the original. Taking a more soulful approach to the track, the 7x Grammy-nominated house master fuses African tones with electro sounds to make a smooth blend. If you don’t bust a move, you’re bound to at least bop your head with the infectious drops and once again, Mahleh’s solid vocal performance. The same could be argued from Floyd Lavine’s take on the track. In a press release from Sheila Afari PR agency, Floyd describes his sound as the “essence of African soil” and this is apparent from his rendition of Fight To Love. Though he is currently based in Berlin, Floyd sticks to his African roots by incorporating African and European sounds into the remix. The bell-sounding background was a particularly nice touch and the electro-like instrumental mixed with African drums makes for a solid take on the song.
It’s safe to say that artists involved brought their A-game on this one, and regardless of your music preference, it’s worth a listen.
