With his recent success as co-producer on Sho Madjozi’s 2x SAMA & BET award winning album, Limpopo Champions League, the time has never been better for pH RawX to embark on a new chapter, as a recording artist and video star.

With an array of new music set to release over the next few months, with hints of more exciting collaborations to come, 2019 is shaping up to be pH Raw X’s most iconic year to date.

About pH RawX

pH RawX, born Gift Nkuna is a heavyweight Beat Maker, Music Producer and Recording Artist. For a decade, he has been on the cutting edge of music making, creating some of the biggest hits for the biggest names in South African music, including Sho Madjozi, Thandiswa Maswai, Khuli Chana, AKA, Mandoza, Riky Rik, HHP, to name a few.

This year, pH RawX is back in the studio, but this time, as a recording artist, the first time in four years. He has signed a global deal with Warner Music South Africa and will be dropping new music in July. The first track IBEBALLINHO, features Sho Madjozi, with an album, as yet untitled, scheduled for later this year.

Says pH, “It was time.  I’ve had a good few years recording some great music with other artists. I loved it, but a couple of months ago, I realized I wanted to record my own stuff again and it just flowed, it was easy.”

Born in Soweto, when he was very young. pH moved backed to his parents home in Giyani, Limpopo. One of seven children, 4 sisters & 3 brothers, he lost his older brother when he was young and his younger brother, Tommy Flo, is also a musician. He came back to Johannesburg to attend boarding school and eventually settled there after school.

As a kid, I remember being very creative, making my own guns with pawpaw branches, playings cowboys in my moms boots. I started drawing early on and was quite good at it. Music came together in pieces. I used to count the amount of instruments or sounds on a song, before even actually enjoying it. I found it amazing that some songs would have 4 instruments while others 10 or more, but all had the same success. As I grew into it and began listening more to the music as a whole, I grew really fond of the art. I remember creating my own beats, in the car with my folks, everytime the indicator would go off.. My love for music grew extensively after that.” reminisces pH.

When asked if he always wanted to me a musician, he chuckles and says his parents were totally against it.  “My dad owns a construction company and from an early age, I was kinda groomed to take over. So I studied interior design, trying to balance the creative side and bring a new dimension to my fathers company. Eventually, the music pull was too much to ignore or even to divide my time between it and my other job… I had to go for it, all in or nothing, so I did around 2009. I quit my job and went all in! ”

As an award winning producer, pH RawX has been responsible for some of the biggest tracks over the past few years and worked with the biggest recording artists, he has also been instrumental in building the careers of exciting new artists like

A-Reece, Big Star Johnson & J Molley.  Says pH, “Don’t get me wrong, I love working with the big names, but finding and nurturing new talent is really rewarding”. He continues, “I truly believe one’s legacy is centered around the people you share your knowledge with and how you learn from them too along the way. One of the many reasons I find myself still relevant after 10 years or so, is because I invest a lot of my time in the people who “got next”. I’m not a producer that wants to make beats for only the top artists in the game, I’m the kind, that wants to help produce the next top artist in the game. I’m gonna live forever that way…at least that’s the plan.”

When asked what makes him happy, apart from a sic beat that is, pH replies, “Easy, my daughter.  She is my biggest HIT!!! God comes first though, all the time. Creating music makes me very happy!”
