The Scorpion Kings (DJ Maphorisa & Kabza De Small) seem to be a serious run heading toward the summer season. Their collaboration with Ami Faku for the hit-song Abalele is currently setting the streets ablaze and the dynamic duo is keeping the momentum going with the release of the remix to Jamaican-American superstar Masego’s hit-single, Mystery Lady which features Cactus Jack’s very own, Don Toliver.

Masego’s (real name, Micah Davis) collaboration with Don Toliver for Mystery Lady had been a pleasing surprised for fans as the duo complement each other’s style nicely to come up with a smooth, jazzy single that has been making the rounds across the playlist.

Teaming up with the Scorpion Kings for remix adds an African flavour to the song. The Scorpion Kings’ reputation is what it is for a reason, & this remix does a solid job of showcasing the talent and chemistry the two DJs share. The Mystery Lady remix gives the feeling of returning to the roots of house music with tribal drums and shakers that fuse well with the different cuts taken from Masego & Don Toliver’s verses on the original.

Another treat for Masego fans is the saxophone that he brings on the remix, this was somewhat missing on the original and it’s nice that Masego brought out what has always been prevalent in his music.

Masego’s instrument playing skills have been one of his main strengths in his career and fused with the Scorpion Kings production, the listener is treated to a soulful, deep-house track that still has an authentic feel to it.

It’s always refreshing seeing South Africans collaborate with international talent, beautiful music can be made & this seems to be the case with the Mystery Lady remix. Whether in the spirit of Heritage month, looking for a track to start the weekend or simply in search of new music, the Mystery Lady remix is worth a listen.
