This heritage day, 24 September, The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz will host a show for young people from different music schools and backgrounds. JLCO with Wynton Marsalis will be presenting interactive performance for Gauteng youth and presenting interactive lessons.

The Jazz for Young People program consists of narrated hour-long concerts. These hour-long narrated concerts use warmth and humor to introduce key musical concepts and other jazz fundamentals. Based on the US model, Jazz for Young People Concerts are offered each year specifically for school groups in Rose Theater at Fredrick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Some of the invited schools and ensembles include the Music Academy of Gauteng, Morris Issacson Music Centre, Tshwane School of Music, Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Company, Thaba Jabula Secondary School, Central Joburg College and Wits School of Arts among many others.

The youth is encouraged to bring their easy to carry instruments to participate in the performance that is paired as workshop.

“We are inviting schools and various young people to register to be part of this groundbreaking workshop and get to experience the legendary Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra live sharing knowledge on music. This is a rare opportunity and we would like to thank Mr Marsalis for availing himself for this before their 3 performances at the main festival on the 26th, 27th and 28th September , to interact and engage with our youth. The registration process has begun and we would like to encourage everyone to go to our website and be a part of history!” commented Ms Mantwa Chinoamadi – Festival Producer.
