To commemorate its first anniversary, Spotify published the top 10 list of local artists who were streamed the most by South African audiences since its March 2018 launch.
Nasty C tops the list, followed by Black Coffee, AKA, Snotkop and Goldfish.
The Swedish streaming platform also published a top 10 list of local tracks.
Black Coffee and David Guetta’s ‘Drive’ featuring Delilah Montagu, which has amassed more than 25 million worldwide streams, is at number one. Lady Zamar’s ‘Collide’ is at No 2, and AKA’s ‘Fela In Versace’ takes third spot.
Spotify managing Middle East and Africa director Claudius Boller said: “Our first year in South Africa has been extremely exciting and we have been thrilled by the response from music fans. Our launch in South Africa – our first African market – gave us the opportunity to offer local music fans access to a world of new music and genres as well as giving local artists the opportunity to connect with a global audience of music fans on Spotify.
“We’ve had a fantastic first year in South Africa and want to thank all artists, labels and music fans who have been on the journey with us so far. We are very excited about what the future holds.”
