Johannesburg, March 14: Today South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa will be receiving the multi award-winning #Soweto Gospel Choir at the Market Theatre Square in Johannesburg tomorrow, Thursday 14 March 2019.
This came after the award winning South African choir scooped it’s third award at this year’s grammy and the group album #”Freedom” becoming best world album.
In 2006 and 2007, they won Grammy awards in the category for Best Traditional World Music Album and in December, the choir joined Beyonce on stage at the Global Citizen Festival, singing a Zulu rendition of the song Halo.
The President will be accompanied by the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, and will engage in a short interaction with the group during which he will congratulate the choir on their achievement.
After the group won it’s grammy in February this year in Los Angeles, a tweet was posted by the South African President congratulating the group of it’s recent achievement.
Congratulations to the Soweto Gospel Choir for being awarded the Best World Music album for ‘Freedom’ at the #GRAMMYs. This is the choir’s third Grammy award and we thank them for telling our story to the world and flying the flag high. pic.twitter.com/03QH3YZ8ZU
