Queen Sono: South Africa’s First Netflix Original Series Starring Pearl Thusi

South African actress, model, television host, and radio personality Pearl Thusi, is a such a go-getter it’s inspiring for most of us!! Ever since she got into the entertainment industry, she has been reaching her goals at her own pace and motivating others to do the same. She recently took to twitter to share some exciting news. She will be playing a lead role in an upcoming Netflix series titled “Queen Sono”… If this is not amazing, I don’t know what is.

Queens Sono is a story of a secret agent who fights crime while dealing with personal crises in her life. Netflix has announced the first African original drama, Queen Sono, set to begin production in South Africa in 2019. Actress Pearl Thusi, who will play the lead character in the series, took to Twitter on Sunday to announce the good news. The series will be directed by South African comedian Kagiso Lediga with Tamsin Andersson as the co-executive producer.

Thusi described Queen Sono as a game changer for every artist on this continent and was excited to be the first to share this news. Netflix’s vice president of international original, Erik Barmack, was quoted saying “I is excited to be working with Kagiso and Pearl, to bring the story of Queen Sono to life,” and expressed his hopes that the show will be embraced by South African and global audiences. Just a week ago, Barmack said at an event in London that the streaming giant would begin commissioning original content in African for 2019, and viewers are glad to see his words coming to fruition.
