Global Citizen EP 1, is made up of four brand new tracks, which was released through Parlophone Records and Atlantic Records in the US. The project features several of our favorite artists including Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, who join Danny Ocean and David Guetta for the track “Voodoo,” as well as Cassper Nyovest and British-Ghanaian grime rapper Stormzy who appear together on the track “Timbuktu” along with Jessica Kent.
Los Unidades dropped the EP’s first single, “E-Lo,” earlier last week. The song features Pharrell Williams, and LA-based rapper, singer and songwriter Jozzy. The song also includes vocals from the late South African musical legend, Miriam Makeba. The EP’s opening track “Rise Up” features words from Nelson Mandela himself. Proceeds of the EP will support Global Citizen’s campaigns and advocacy efforts to end extreme poverty, as well as its work in areas such as gender equality, education, water and sanitation.
The project has been spearheaded by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, the curator of Global Citizen’s annual live music festivals. This EP is one of many projects that have been done this year to mark what would have been the Nelson Mandela’s centenary year. Of the project, Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans said: “For hundreds of years we have witnessed the power of music in bringing people together to drive activism and demand change. We are thrilled to release Global Citizen EP 1 with new songs from these incredible artists who stand with us in the fight to defeat extreme poverty, and we are extremely grateful to Parlophone Records and Atlantic Records.”
