Its a big day for South African football as Mamelodi Sundowns and Barcelona go head to head for the Mandela Centenary Cup. After Barcelona failed to land on schedule due to their flight being delayed, we were a little nervous but we glad to hear that everything is in full swing for the big game. The Barcelona boys arrived at 9am at the O.R Tambo International Airport with thousands of South African fans waiting to greet them.
The game is scheduled to kick-off at 18:15at the FNB Stadium, with the earlier-than-usual starting due to an agreement with FIFA. According to news that were reported early this morning by News 24, the world governing body sanctioned that the game could go ahead as long as it did not clash with the Europa League final between Atletico Madrid and Marseille which kicks off at 20:45.
Nzimande told reporters that extra security had been procured for the sold out clash.
“We have been involved in a series of meetings with Stadium Management‚ planning for the safety of the fans before‚ during and after the game. So far everything is going according to plan.”
“We have invested a little bit more on security to ensure there is a high level of safety. We starting with the security component far from the perimeters of the stadium to unsure that fans are directed to all the gates we have in the stadium.”
