Medical doctor by day and musician by night is who the man above is. Award-winning Ghanaian Reggae artist, Nii Lante Okunka Blankson, better known as Knii Lante is arguably the sweetest male voice out in African decades.
Knii is also an excellent songwriter and composer, who plays the piano and guitar and sings well enough to have earned himself the best male vocal performer in his home country on two occasions.
In 2010 he released his first local major album “Love and Revolution“. His vocal delivery on this album won him a Ghana Music Awards recognition. The song “Rocky Road” also went on to win him a nomination and then the Yaa Asantewa award at the first reggae/dancehall Bass Awards in Ghana. (Talk about a great start to your career right?)
Fast forward to 2018, the man has big plans. One of his latest project released is the Afro-Pop influenced single “You” (featuring Ghanaian female singer, Feli Nuna) which has received massive attention and acclaim from the media and fans alike. The official video for “You” has also been released on YouTube and it was directed by Gyo Gyimah of Phamous Philms. This single is taken off his upcoming and soon to be released Afro-Pop EP.
Within the last one week, he has released a new single called ‘Open Mic’. Knii Lante is becoming a motivation for numerous Ghanaian and West African youth to stay in school, pursuing their academic goals while developing their artistic talents and following their passion in other interests. His ability to combine an excellent active practise in medicine (he is a physician specialist in Internal Medicine and Therapeutics) with music, both at the highest levels, is very unique, mind boggling but at the same time very inspiring. He may just have galvanised an army of people who otherwise may have dropped their passions for a life of purely academic professions to instead combine both. In this regard, one of his maxims is “Healing must come, either by Music or by Medicine”.
