The label known for pioneering Durban Kwaito and serving some of the big House music hits is venturing into a new territory. Afro Soul is a genre that has a special place in the hearts of the South African music consumers. Afrotainment has always been proud of their ability to have a personal touch in the genres of music that they have produced and their entrance into the Afro Soul space will further cement that.
The Nameless Band is an Afro Soul group that consists of a lady and two gentlemen. Gugu Zulu who is no stranger to the South African entertainment space with her role on SABC 1’s popular soapie, Uzalo and The Alliance. MaBlerh is also no stranger to the entertainment industry. He has played in most of the spheres of the industry from radio (Ukhozi FM and Radio 702) to TV (Mzansi Magic’s Celebrity Bootcamp and Isibaya) to music (Nutty Nys’s 2013 hit Umbuzo [Sies]). The group introduces Sky, real name Scelo Yeni, a gentleman from Lamontville in Durban.
The Nameless Band brings an eclectic mix of 90’s R&B and smooth urban sounds to the genre of Afro Soul. The sound is crisp and current. The lyrical content is fresh and marries English with the Durban dialect of IsiZulu. They bring the cool and funky element to a genre that is always perceived as dated. The look and feel of the group is bound to capture the urban youth whilst delivering the goods to the avid Afro Soul fanatic.
Their debut single, Masiyeke, which is IsiZulu for “let us let it go”, officially dropped today, listen to it here
