Joe Bullet back in cinema after 44 years

South African independent film Joe Bullet, which was banned by the then Apartheid government will be screened from today..

The film was released in 1973 at the Eyethu cinema in Soweto, and after only two screenings it was banned. It was later unbanned by the Minister of Communication but never released.

Joe Bullet starred, Ken Gampu, one of the first black South African actors to appear in Hollywood films and the legendary singer/actress, Abigail Kubeka, the film was based on the story of a local soccer team who encounter difficulties with the criminal underworld.

It was one of the first South African films featuring an all-African cast and for the first time in 44 years the film will be distributed and screened.
