Spotlight On TAR Women: Carol Hobbs

South Africa celebrates women in August, and since it is women’s month we have decided to focus on our beautiful and talented female DJ’s who do an amazing job in entertaining all our listeners.

The feature is called ‘Spotlight On TAR Women’ , it aims to give our listeners a chance to know a bit more about the favourite ladies behind the mic.

First up is Carol Hobbs, she hosts Girls Gone Wild every Sunday from 5-8pm CAT. The show is focused on all women topics, Carol gets to delve deep into these topics with the help of our weekly celebrity guest co-host. These guest co-hosts range from singers, actresses and businesswomen who are doing great things in their respective fields.

East Rand, Beautiful Vosloorus, South Africa

Where did you grow up? 

Vosloorus, South Africa

How was your childhood?

Musical, my family has a choral background. My parents are creatives so I was entertained all day, everyday.  

Do you have any siblings?

Yes, 1 brother and 2 sisters.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

An Entertainer, art had me thinking I was the next famous painter. I loved acting too…I actually still do.   

When did you discover your passion for radio?

2003 called in at a radio station and just hearing my own voice…and being complimented by the radio host got me HOOKED… 

What has been your experience since you started working on radio?

That people just want to be heard too… That you need to understand the different types of human mindsets

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

An awesome radio host in my own right. A mother (getting old- hahaha) and an entrepreneur.

Do you have other passions besides radio?

Marketing and photography.  Something about these too industry keeps me curious always.

What do you do on your spare time?

Believe or not I love sleeping…this hectic brain needs to rest too. Family time is always a priority for me.

Do you have a motto that keeps you going?

You are born for a reason, keep your purpose alive.                

What’s that one thing that most people don’t know about you?

Im a cry baby…very emotional person, shy and quiet (believe) and a dancer (secretly)

Do you think you are living your best life?

Yes, and Im doing more to evolve myself all the time. Its important to know you’ve done more than enough

When did you join TransAfrica radio and what attracted you to the station?

I joined TAR on the 1st May 2016, what attracted me was the freedom of knowing my musical Africanism.

Besides the fact that TAR plays 100% African music 24/7/365 what is unique about your show?

My show is an invite to my home or yours (listener) I get to allow you to sit on the couch and we have a great conversation. Girls gone wild is one of your friends coming over for a Sunday catch up session.

Which show besides your show on TAR would you love to take on given the chance and why?

Oh wow…What a very tricky question. To be honest everyone is placed according to their personality. I’m fitted just right on GGW just like a good pair of jeans
