Rhumba megastar Koffi Olomide was deported from Kenya after video footage of the Congolese artist kicking one of his background singers went viral over the weekend.
Olomide kicked one of his dancers in full view of the police at Nairobi International Airport.
“I can confirm to you that my client Koffi Olomide was expelled this morning and I have just spoken to him,” Olomide’s Kenyan lawyer George Wajakoyah said on Saturday, adding he had landed back in Kinshasa.
Kenya’s Youth Affairs minister, Sicily Kairuki, berated the Congolese singer for insulting Kenyans.
“His conduct was an insult to Kenyans and our constitution,” she said. “Violence against women and girls cannot be accepted in any shape, form or manner.”
Promoters in Zambia cancelled Olomide’s planned shows after a public outcry on social media.
